How to Prep Your Yard for Fence Installation on Cape Cod

Getting a new fence installed? Smart move. But if you want the job done right and done fast, you need to prep your yard first.
Most people don't realize that a little work upfront saves time, money, and headaches. Here's what you need to do before the crew shows up:
First, mark your property lines. You'd be surprised how many people guess where their property ends. Don't guess. Check your deed or hire a surveyor. Installing a fence on your neighbor's property creates legal problems you don't want.
Second, call Dig Safe at 811. This is required by law in Massachusetts. They'll come out and mark underground utilities like gas lines, electric cables, and water pipes. Hitting one of these during installation is dangerous and expensive.
Third, clear the fence line. Move lawn furniture, grills, planters, and toys. Trim back bushes and tree branches that hang over where the fence will go. The clearer the path, the faster the install.
Fourth, mow your lawn. A freshly cut yard makes it easier for the installation team to measure, dig post holes, and work efficiently. Plus, you won't have tall grass in the way when they're setting posts.
Fifth, talk to your neighbors. Let them know you're installing a fence and when the crew will be there. Good fences make good neighbors, but good communication makes better ones.
Sixth, check local regulations. Some Cape Cod towns have height restrictions or setback requirements. We handle permits, but knowing the rules helps you plan better.
Proper prep means your fence goes up faster, looks better, and lasts longer. We've installed hundreds of fences on Cape Cod, and we've seen what works.
